Happiness/Geluk

Artist Edward Clydesdale Thomson (Stichting Landfall) was commissioned to create a public artwork for the Schiedam-Oost area. This sculpture with the title Geluk, will be unveiled on Saturday, November 2nd 2024, across from the ‘Wijkhuis Oost’, in Schiedam.

With this artwork he aims to celebrate the younger generation of Schiedam-Oost and give them a (symbolic) place where they can share their happiness and achievements with each other and the the neighbourhood. The sculpture takes the form of a stage on the street.

To inaugurate the artwork, team Landfall offers two workshops themed around happiness, specifically for talented young people from Schiedam-Oost who like dance, performance and theatre.

The workshops, under the guidance of professionals like Tall Tales Company, the young participants will develop their own vision of happiness through movement, theater, and acrobatics—creating their own choreographies.

My role is to dive deep into the neighbourhood and connect with all the youngsters and inform and enthousiast them to participate in the workshops.

Manuela Porceddu

Artist investigating the intersections of bodies, landscapes, and belonging. Drawing on Deleuze’s rhizome and Ingold’s ‘lines of correspondence,’ I explore (un)rooting, memory, and connection through photography, video, and drawing. My process begins with walking and observing, reflecting on how we internalize place and connection.
